Julius Caesar died March 15, 44 B.C. He was assassinated at the Ides of March, by several member of the Senate.
Julius Caesar’s Life: Caesar was born July 12, 100 B.C. He was born into a family that was close to the Marian Faction in Roman politics. Thus, Julius progressed in politics, eventually making him governor of the Roman province of Spain in 61 B.C. Then in 60 B.C., he made a pact with Pompey and Crassus, which helped him become consul in 59 B.C. The next year, he was appointed governor of the Roman Gaul, where he stayed for eight years, adding France and Belgium to the Roman Empire. He then returned to Italy, disregarding the authority of the Senate. Caesar then crossed the Rubicon River with his army, defeating republican forces. Caesar was now the official and permanent dictator of Rome. With him becoming dictator, it made the Senate mad, which led to the assassination of Julius Caesar. http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/historic_figures/caesar_julius.shtml Picture Source: http://score.rims.k12.ca.us/score_lessons/caesar_rome/handout.html |
