When Trajan became emperor in 98 A.D., he established at once that the Senate would always be kept informed about what was going on. Also, he stated that the sovereign right to rule was compatible with freedom for the people who were ruled. There was a gold coin that was made of the triumphal arch which was the entrance to the Forum of Trajan. Trajan wanted to defeat the Parthians, who owned great areas of desert land south of the Caspian Sea. He won some battle and occupied some of the Parthian lands, but became ill and died on his way back to Rome in 117 A.D. When he died, he left Publius Aelius Hadrianus (Hadrian), in charge of the situation in the east. http://www.the-romans.co.uk/good_emperors.htm
